Manama Bairéin

Manama, on the north‑eastern corner of the island, is the capital and largest city of Bahrain. It’s a modern, fast‑moving city of high‑rise buildings with a genuinely authentic flair. While the city has followed the Gulf trend for skyscraper construction, Manama has kept much of its original character. Bahrain’s capital is a fascinating blend of old and new: excavated tombs dating back four thousand years sit only a few miles from gleaming modern towers. Manama Souq, packed with multi‑coloured spices, exotic fruits, glittering jewellery and luxurious silks, sits alongside ultra‑modern shopping centres and top‑class restaurants, while quiet coffee shops contrast with some of the best nightlife in the region. Highlights in Manama include the Al Fateh Mosque, Bahrain Fort, Bahrain National Museum, Barbar Temple, the Corniche al‑Fateh and the Museum of Pearl Diving, regarded as one of Bahrain’s most important historic buildings.
