Okavango Delta Bhotsuáin

The Okavango Delta, also known as the Okavango Grassland, in Botswana is a vast swampy inland delta formed where the Okavango River reaches a tectonic trough in the central part of the Kalahari’s endorheic basin. All of the water that reaches the delta eventually evaporates or is transpired; none of it flows into any sea or ocean. Each year, about 11 cubic kilometres (2.6 cu mi) of water spread out over an area of roughly 6,000–15,000 km2 (2,300–5,800 sq mi), with some of the floodwaters draining into Lake Ngami. The region was once part of Lake Makgadikgadi, an ancient lake that had largely dried up by the early Holocene. The Moremi Game Reserve, designated as a National Park, lies on the eastern side of the Delta. The Okavango Delta was named one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, an honour officially announced on 11 February 2013 in Arusha, Tanzania. On 22 June 2014, it became the 1000th site to be formally inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
