Kamakura was designated a city on 3 November 1939. As of 1 September 2016, the modern city has an estimated population of 172,302 and a population density of 4,358.77 people per km². The total area is 39.53 km². As a coastal city with many seasonal festivals, as well as ancient Buddhist and Shinto shrines and temples, Kamakura is a popular tourist destination in Japan.

The city is steeped in heritage sites and culture, boasts a wide variety and number of eateries and is relatively easy to get around. Its rich culture and heritage seep from every piece of architecture and tradition. Kyoto is home to thousands of temples and shrines, including the spectacular golden Kinkaku-ji, Ryoanji with its Zen garden, the popular Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo with its life-size statues of Kannon and the more serene Tenryu-ji in Arashiyama. Also in Arashiyama, you'll find the famous Bamboo Grove. A fantastic thing to do in Kyoto is a walking tour of Gion, one of the main Geisha districts. Its wooden buildings and lamps create the perfect atmosphere. Kyoto is one of the world's greatest historical cities, brimming with temples, shrines, teahouses and imperial residences. About the destination: Seoul is the capital of South Korea. Oozing Asian allure from every brick, Seoul is a city that's both very modern and steeped in tradition. There's a wealth of things to see and do in this lively city, with plenty of impressive sights, tasty cuisine, architecture, nightlife, museums, culture, entertainment, shopping and open spaces to keep any visitor entertained. The Hangang River splits Seoul into two distinct areas, north and south. The city is nestled in a natural basin, encircled by the Hanbuk Mountain Range and a series of hills, offering a stunning scenic beauty that is one of Seoul’s main attractions. As the ancient home of Korea's royalty, there are many palaces and fortresses scattered throughout the city. Some of the most significant are the Gyeongbok-gung, the Changdeok-gung and the Deoksu-gung.
